Dominik,

Then I'm thinking you'd like my preferred <a href="http://www.killingtime.com/Pegu/?p=46" rel="nofollow">Mimosa Recipe</a> as well!
I've had the odd ginger beer that works great, but the stores around here never have the same brand twice. Other ginger beers are just.... wrong. It is so esoteric that the makers think they can go all eclectic on me.
Finally, with my Practical Variant, that is not nearly enough lime! And as I have written in this space before, I for one hate squeezed pieces in my drink... virtually any drink that calls for measurable amounts of juice. Keep the squeezes for G&Ts and the like!

A really nice entertaining post! And the drink? Also a good one! (though I prefer the first recipe: one bottle of fine champagne...).

Though I think that ginger beer is quite essential for the Moscow Mule.
Or you charge ginger ale with a bit homemade ginger syrup and you have again this amazing spiciness.
And as I am lazy I like to squeeze only 3 wedges of lime and also dump the shells into the glass.

But stop - there is coming one very good drink into my mind, which is very similar - I would say even better... the Dark & Stormy. Substitute the Smirnoff with the Gosling Black Seal (the d&s is another "branded" drink) and you are in heaven - it is not so light, not so refreshing, but loaded with a tons of flavors!

Cheers!

I'm a big fan of the Moscow Mule, which either points to my Polish heritage or my deep love of ginger beer. It is hard to find ginger beer around here -- a few years back some soda company offered it but apparently I was the only one buying. I found a recipe for making it at home, but it produces a ginger beer that's pleasantly ginger-spicy but too lemony. So I'll be trying your bitters correction in a ginger ale variation. Thanks!

A dozen?!? I'm lucky to have two to choose from, in the best circumstances. And seldom the same stuff. It one definite reason I've given up on the beer and gone with ginger ale. Also, my way is much more bartender-friendly.

Mmm, the mule. One of my favorites, and a rare instance of a marketing-driven cocktail that's actually a pleasure to drink. Sad how many non-upscale bartenders in my fair city still find this one a mystery.

I actually like mine with the original Cock 'n' Bull ginger beer, or the Fever-Tree Ginger when I'm in the mood for a more refined profile. We're lucky that our local Beverages & More sells an amazing array of oddball sodas, including a couple dozen ginger beers.
