Just had lunch at Agraria yesterday - beautiful last day of Summer, so we ate outside. The louvered windows were open in the dining area. We only had burgers to eat, but they were excellent.

For drinks, I had a Mai Tai (always capitalized) as a basis of comparison, since I used to review those. It wasn't on the menu, but the waiter brought out his drink cheat sheets so I could peruse the ingredients. The Mai Tai was on there. It was very good, not great.

My wife had a Cajun Watermelon Punch, which neither of us liked. It's a "savory" drink, which was a new term to me. It had watermelon pieces in it, with seeds floating around. Otherwise great presentation. It was sprinkled with black and red pepper, which was okay.

Asking for something fruitier, they brought what was supposed to be the Potted Parrot, but was not. The waiter misread something, and brought what might have been a screwdriver, with no ice. It tasted like orange juice. Later, they comped me a drink, which was the real Potted Parrot, and it was delightful.

Jon Arroyo, the mixologist made his way outside to chat, apologized for the "mix up", and we chatted merrily. He showed me some vintage Trader Vic's recipes and such, and let me sample a new rum that is some kind of new rage. He helped me put my own tastes into perspective - enlightening.

They may have an event to commerate the 75th anniversery of the Mai Tai.

Cheers!

I worked here, briefly, before the menu change and left during that transition, mainly because I was a part-timer and couldn't take on the amount of work they were asking of me during the change. I'm really glad to hear positive reviews of the place and of the changes - I was worried that they were taking on entirely too much for one menu. I'll have to pay them a visit and see how it is.

cheers
