Repeal Day Reading

December 5th is Repeal Day! Growing up in the South, we always referred to the Georgia-Florida game as “The Annual Celebration of the Repeal of Prohibition”. But the actual Repeal Day is this month, and there will be celebrations in cocktail lounges across the land. That said, I guarantee that there was more booze consumed inside and out of the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville a few weeks ago than will be consumed in all the Repeal Day parties in America. Georgia-Florida really would make temperance maniac Molly Hatchet weep. Incidentally, the band Molly Hatchet comes from Jacksonville, too. I wonder if there is a connection.
At any rate, I’ve got a book that might be worth a Repeal Day read: The Prohibition Hangover: Alcohol in America from Demon Rum to Cult Cabernet
Prohibition
It is a good read for those who might want to consider the possibility that our increasing move to the nanny state means it is only a matter of time before Molly Hatchet will be back, only this time, she’ll have a law degree and be called the “Alcohol Control Czar”….
Anyway, since I dumped all over my buddy Jacob Grier in my last post, I’ll try to re-establish my pseudo-libertarian cred by including this interview with the author with ReasonTV.
